From The Collection Latomus (Société d'études latines de Bruxelles) Volume 43; 255 pages. Bears signature and bookplate of Prof. K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of The Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, who had the book bound about 1960; a letter from Fr. Bodnar is bound in the front of the volume. Pretty much flawless with the exception of one small page corner repair.
Cyriacus, or Ciriaco de' Pizzecolli (1391-1452) , was a merchant and diplomat from Ancona, who traveled extensively throughout Greece, the Mediterranean, Egypt and the Near and Middle East before the Turkish conquest of Constantinople. He recorded inscriptions and monuments and made many drawings of buildings, temples and monuments of antiquity, and collected medallions, documents and objects d'art. His extraordinary and voluminous records (Commentaria) represent the only sources for many of the antiquities he described, and for most of the thousand Greek and Latin inscriptions he copied.
Fr. Edward Bodnar (1920-2012) was a classics professor at Georgetown from 1967 until his retirement in 1991. He was a renowned expert in the study of the Byzantine and Renaissance rediscovery of classical antiquity, and particularly the unique contributions of Ciriaco de' Pizzecolli.
