About This Item
In Latin, some French. 426 pages, plus Statutes of the Société for 1879. Near Fine, binding tight and sound, pages tight, bright, untorn with minimal age-darkening; tops of pages a little soiled from age, Vol. II des Publications de la Société de l'Orient Latin. No. 221 of 500 printed. Bears signature and bookplate of Prof. K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of The Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Previously from the library of John L. La Monte.
Reinhold Röhricht (1842-1905) was arguably one of the most indefatigable, intensive, thorough and meticulous compilers, editors and organizers of materials relating to the history and topography of the Holy Land and the Crusades. Although not an historical synthesizer nor indeed an historian, but perhaps more of an antiquarian and researcher, Röhricht virtually singlehandedly laid the foundation for modern historical research and study of the Crusades.
Critical source documents for the Fifth Crusade (1218-1222) from lesser-known contemporary and near-contemporary writers.
