About This Item

London: Faber & Faber Ltd. ,. Near Fine in Very Good+ dust jacket. 1975. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. 0571107222 . In the original white based, full colour, pictorial boards, in the original identically illustrated dust-jacket by Errol Le Cain. As the boards have been protected by the d/j the covers of the book itself are near immaculate - just a small pale semi-circular mark at the top of the front board/white margin, a small push/bump to the bottom of the spine/inner edge of the front board with a little very pale light exposure at that point, making 0.5cm slightly 'off-white' & just a hint of dust staining to the top edges - but really all that is 'nit-picking', NO damage - all negligible. The dust-jacket is near fine and not price-clipped, but has a 4.5 closed tear at the rear bottom edge of the spine, now repaired with clear archive tape to the reverse. The d/j is now in a new protective clear - removable - bookfilm plastic cover and looks Fine. This copy came from the library of the late Joyce Irene Whalley who wrote many books on Children's books/book illustration, but there are NO INSCRIPTIONS OR MARKS, or note of this ownership. Internally very clean, tight and bright. There is what appears to be some 'tanning' on the Title page and opposite - but it's not the usual type of browning and every copy I have seen has the same - so I think this was intended and part of the printing process. Unpaginated, but circa 32 pp - which are alternating pages of full page, full colour pictures, followed by the text with a heavily decorative border. All charmingly illustrated by the rather marvellous Errol Le Cain. FIRST EDITION, First Impression. One of the Scarcer Le Cain books. See Images ; Oblong Small 4to 10" x 8" .
