Washington, D. C.: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), 1974. Official NASA black and white photograph of the scientist-astronaut Karl Gordon Henize (1926-1993). Inscribed "To Lee Saegesser, Best regards" and SIGNED "Karl G. Henize.". PROVENANCE: from the collection of Lee Saegesser, Chief Archivist from 1967 until 1997 in the Washington, DC NASA Headquarters History Office. Included with the signed photo is a green NASA memo routing slip containing a note signed by Cy Baker, Administrator of the Astronaut Office in Houston. The note is an apology for the delay in getting the autograph and an explanation that "Karl Henize was out of the country." The routing slip also includes the signature of Sally Gates, an editor and archivist in NASA's History Office. As an astronaut Karl Henize flew in space on STS-51F mission in July and August, 1985. As an astronomer, he discovered more than 2,000 stars in the southern hemisphere, all of which are now designated by "HE" in star catalogues. Condition of the signed photograph is excellent: The inscription and signature are bold and bright. The photograph is clean and bright, without wear or wrinkles.. SIGNED. First Edition. Paper.
