PARLEMENT OF FOULES by Chaucer, Geoffrey [Bruce Rogers] - 1904

Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1904. Between 1900 and 1912 Bruce Rogers designed more than 100 volumes for The Riverside Press.  Among them were some of his most acclaimed designs, including the design for Chaucer's Parlement of Foules, which is printed on laid paper in black and red French Gothic type and in the style of medieval manuscripts.  On two pages there are gilded initials in a decorated field of blue.  The edition is limited to 325 copies, of which this is number 266.  Laid in the book is a Note (also on laid paper) in which the publisher tells the story of Chaucer's writing of the poem. .
