(54)pp. A delightful illustrated alphabet book produced by the Dutch Association for the Combating of Tooth Decay, who chose the form as a way to help children remember the steps toward proper care of their teeth. Among the words included are "Aandacht [attention]," as in, "A, attention is requested for the teeth so that toothache never plagues you"; "Questie [Quest]" for the quest to take good care of your mouth; and "Fruit," the same word in English, which is "so fragrant and fine, and excellent medicine for the teeth." The accompanying color images are connected to the illustrative sentence, sometimes tangentially, as with N, which describes wisdom teeth and depicts an owl sitting on a book open to the same page spread for N as the reader is viewing, suggesting that by reading the book, the reader will gain their own wisdom about the heath of their teeth. A humorous etymology exploring the history and word-play of the word "bag." Illustrated throughout with hand-colored drawings by Weiss. Bound in tan leather with decorative brown stamping to front cover. The nine extra etchings are fullpage illustrations of fashionable bags from the sixteenth century through the 1930's. The extra suite is signed by Weiss and held in a brown paper chemise. This deluxe edition, with etchings, is housed in a miniature leather book tote. Very fine. (Bradbury, p. 78). This copy is in a variant binding, unrecorded by Massmann, of green morocco with a gilt-stamped binding design by Rudolph Ruzicka. Very fine. A.e.g. (Massmann 20; Bradbury, p. 253). (14)pp. One of 100 copies signed and numbered by Maryline Poole Adams, who printed, bound, and illustrated the book with hand-colored initials and familiar Christmas motifs. New Castle, DE: Oak Knoll Books, 1984. Scroll measuring 122 by 3 1/4 inches. One of 300 copies, printed in black with blue cherubim as ornament. This speech by Adelman was read at a meeting of the Friends of the Bryn Mawr College Library on April 3, 1981. In his speech, Adelman recites the miracles of Providence that follow virtuous book collectors, being a famous collector himself. Printed by Bird & Bull Press. Very fine in a white plastic canister with a printed paper label.

Philadelphia: Taylor & Hessey, 1981. Octavo. 28pp. One of 400 copies. A humorous analysis of the travel agency industry, rendered even more amusing when read by those of us in the twenty-first century. Fine in plain wrappers.

Erwinna, PA, 1955. One-and-a-half pages on a single sheet of Colophon stationery, folded into fourths. Dated 16 June 1955 and addressed to Paul Bennett, Adler opens with an apology of sorts, noting that "I am not able to say what my address will be in another two weeks." The reason for this, he continues, is that he had "been invited by the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to take up residence in San Juan, and this provides for a house that is to be purchased and restored for my special use." This letter essentially describes the genesis of Casa del Libro, which was founded in 1955, and for which Adler served as its first director. Further in the letter, Adler outlines his plans for his time in San Juan: "If and when I am settled in Puerto Rico for the next couple of years, I have the hope of being on many mailing lists (and calling lists as well) for I will attempt to build up a typographical collection that will be available to the people on the island." Wellesley, MA: Annis Press, 1980. An archive of materials relating to the production of Four Fables from Aesop, the limited edition from Wellesley College's Annis Press for the year 1980. Included are two pieces of correspondence and many proof sheets in a variety of states with comments in pen, pencil, and type. These have been carefully organized, and prefaced by a table of contents that organizes them according to their main concern (i.e. contents of the page itself, printing issues, labels, sewing, and numbering of copies). The result is a fascinating and digestible account of collegiate small-press printing, as instructive as it is nostalgic. Held in a letterpress-printed manila folder. Fine.

NY: Viking Press, 1933. Artzybasheff, Boris. First edition. Inscribed by the illustrator, Boris Artzybasheff, to Dorothy Lathrop. Twenty of Artzybasheff's inventive, cartoonish wood engravings illustrate ninety of Aesop's famed fables. Artzybasheff's work, both in book illustration and commerical art, adopted the graphic and the grotesque, imbuing humanity, both in implicit emotion and explicit anthropomorphish, into animals and machines. His book Seven Simeons was chosen as the Caldecott Honor Book for 1938, and his inscription here links him to another Caldecott winner in Lathrop. Bound in full red cloth with paper labels to spine and upper cover, the latter showing Artzybasheff's illustration of a bookish donkey. Some exterior soiling, trace foxing to edges of text, else near fine in near fine pictorial dust wrapper, which shows expected chipping and discoloration to spine.

Vernon Jones, with an Introduction by G.K. Chesterton. Save for the smaller trim size, the trade edition is identical to the signed, limited edition in terms of number of illustrations. In full limp leather stamped in blind and gilt on upper cover—a binding not noted in Latimore & Haskell. Extremely fine and fresh, still retaining its original glassine wrapper and fragile two-part decorated box, which has had some expert restoration to lid. (Latimore & Haskell, pp. 38-39).
