The author is taking the waters for her health at the Black Rock Resort or bathing area. "This was the earliest of and the longest serving of the Great Salt Lake bathing resorts. The Black Rock Resort was built in the mid-1860s and expanded in 1880." – Merritt, A Colorful History. History.Utah.gov. She describes her routine of bathing four times a day and how she is feeling better as a result. She bathes before breakfast, at 11 am; at 3 pm and again at night before retiring. "I can be down and float I can lie down and float and guide myself where I please entirely alone but – cannot – yet -- get up alone except in shallow water. I am determined to learn though and when I can get up without assistance in deep water I shall next learn to turn over and swim." Langdon's List of 19th & Early 20th Century Photographers shows Lewiston, A., Photographer, 203 W Commerce, San Antonio, Texas, based on: Jules A. Appler's General Directory and Blue Book of the City of San Antonio (1909). Lewiston had a different address in 1915. An interesting photograph showing six teams of men and horses with plows; some of the men are African American. Also other men, horses and a buggy. It appears
to be adjacent to the stockyards, with stock cars visible in the background. Perhaps a contest in connection with the stock show?

Randolph had a well-known career as an Army officer and Western explorer, fought in the Mexican-American War and the Civil War. He determined the Marcy route from Fort Smith to Santa Fe. He also explored the Great Plains in search of the source of the Red River, resulting in the book Exploration of the Red River of Louisiana, In the Year 1852.... – Handbook of Texas. This book shares some of Mrs. Marcy's life as a military wife at Western forts. A rare privately published account of a western military wife.

Illustrated with a wood engraving of "Miss Liberty," whose statue stands at the top of the dome of the United States Capitol building. This copy has Galla County crossed out and Drake written in at head.

[Lincoln][Ohio] Memorial Badge worn by Ohio Veterans. [Marietta, Ohio?]: [Washington County Veteran Association] [Circa 1915?] Medal. 9 cm total. Hanger is of a brass type metal with a celluloid "Member" plaque. A red, white, and blue ribbon is attached to a celluloid disk (4.5 cm) with the likeness of President Abraham Lincoln. Written around Lincoln's likeness is "Washington County, Ohio, Veterans Association - 1861 - 1865". Very good.

The was a documented reunion of the Washington County Veteran Association held in Marietta, Ohio, October 13, 14, 15, 1915. Washington County sent some 4,000 soldiers to fight in the Civil War.

Eberstadt 10. Harper 12:276. This is probably the first announcement of the defeat at Buena Vista. An omnibus publication issued by Ramón Adame consisting of Santa-Anna's brief report of the Battle of Buena Vista, supplemental reports Adame has received, and a concluding address by Adame. Santa-Anna states in his report that he had to abandon the field because he had no food or supplies: "pues no nos ha quedado ni una galleta, ni un solo grano de arroz.... Hemos luchado con el hambre y la sed por mas de cuarenta horas." He reports two thousand American dead on the field. Lee, along with documents on the US-Mexican relations, extradition, free trade zone and more. Additional information to that found in the 1876 document of the same subject listed in Reese, Six Score, which he calls "an important government document dealing with cattle theft along the Mexican border."

[Montana] Al Furstnow. Cowboy Saddle Tag. Miles City, Montana: [No publication information.] [Circa 1934?] Color saddle tag with string tie. 8 x 16 cm. Fine.
Al Furstnow, learned the saddlery business from his father. At age 19, he worked for Collins in Cheyenne in 1881. He worked in Miles City for Goettlich for about a year starting in 1883 and then for Collins in Omaha in 1884. He bounced around to Cheyenne and San Francisco and then came to work in Miles City for Robbins and Lenoir in 1894. In August, he opened Furstnow's Saddle Shop with himself as the sole employee. Al Furstnow made "The Saddle That Made Miles City Famous." He is credited with having made the first two flower hand-stamped saddles created in Miles City. One was made for Great Britain's Lord Sidney Paget and the other was made for Leigh Remington, of the Remington Arms family.

With 51 members whose brands are illustrated, this was certainly produced in a small number of copies and due to its use in the field as a working tool is very scarce now. With seven new members and their brands hand drawn at the end of the book. Archuleta County is in the Four Corners Area.
