An ingenious and unique children's book by Dutch educator, author and peace activist Kees Boeke. Description:
One of the towering modernist architects of the 20th Century, Marcel Breuer was a student and teacher at the Bauhaus, a designer of iconic furniture, and a pioneer of the International Style. Some of his best-known commissions include: the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York (1966) and UNESCO Headquarters in Paris (1952-58). This volume details Breuer's design philosophy and documents his furniture designs, including the Wassily chair, and building projects including UNESCO Headquarters. "This book attempts to divert attention from the generously used slogans, shortcuts, and set dogmas of an established modern architecture and to emphasize rather the philosophical implications underneath," writes Breuer in the introduction.Editing and notes by Peter Blake. The unorthodox horizontal book design is by famed Harper's Bazaar art director Alexey Brodovitch. Good- copy with no dust jacket.
