1890. Original manuscript. Very Good. 2pp on two leaves of Campbell's Executive Department letterhead with an engraved view of City Hall. He addresses the editor as an old friend, congratulating him "upon the magnificent improvements just made to the Chronicle...," noting "the evidence of prosperity" and "your ability and peculiar adaptability for the paper and place...." Most of this letter centers on Mayor Campbell's political career, in part, "...I was asked to head the ticket this spring, to redeem the city from Democratic rule, with a majority of 635 staring me in the face...." He goes on to tell of "an annexation bill (which I strongly favored)....But it is not choice amusement to fight two campaigns in six weeks...in a city of 54 square miles...and yet I had 53 more votes than the next highest man on the ticket...," &c., &c. Dated 21 April 1890. 8.25" x 10.75". Neat archival repairs on verso, accompanied by the soiled and worn mailing envelope.
