Both volumes quite worn, with cloth back strips on both volumes badly chipped and missing sections, covers shelf worn cloth rubbed through at fore-corner tips. Internally good plus condition, hinges and bindings sturdy, paper clean and light to moderately yellowed with minor foxing, but significant foxing to endpapers. Originally published in 1836. Previous owner's signature and inscription with date Jan. 1, 1847 on original title page of volume I; owner's initials on front endpaper of Vol. II.

Quarto, 10 1/4"tall, 436 pages plus numerous engraved black and white as well as printed color plates; three-quarter leather. A good copy over all, interior very good, generally clean with text paper ranging from moderately yellowed to white, with foxing scattered throughout, BUT hinges broken and front cover loose, back strip leather significantly chipped top and bottom, the pages with the Poe poem are moderately yellowed. This is the first 'authorized' appearance of Poe's last poem. It was published by various newspapers along with his obituary in the weeks previous.

Octavo, 8 1/2" tall, vol. 1: viii + 380 pages; vol. 2: viii + 375 pages; gilt fore-edges, marbled endpapers, three-quarter red leather over red cloth. A very good minus, generally clean, sturdy set with minor shelf wear and rubbing to the fore-corners, binding solid, paper light to moderately yellowed BUT with some foxing to the first and last pages as well as the plate pages. A nice original reading set, good-looking on the shelf, but not significantly collectible.
