Samuel Wilberforce printed in red and black, and 9 chromolithographic leaves in the style of an illuminated manuscript, richly coloured and incorporating gold and silver. [c.1930].. Colour lithograph reproducing an original painting by Claude Flight. The image measuring 17.8 x 15cm. Signed in ink to the lower right margin and titled in ink to the lower left. Contained within the original glazed wooden frame, with label to the rear: "F. J. Ward / 3 Baker St. / London, W.1. / and at / 48 Gt. Russell St. / W.C.1. / (Helena Johnston)" (21.6 x 18.3cm including frame). There is a touch of fading to the ink signature/title. The lithograph is in very good condition, free from foxing and with the colours remaining bold and bright. The frame is also in very good order with just a few expected minor knocks and marks. An uncommon signed lithograph reproducing a painting of a stylised French rural scene by the artist Claude Flight (1881-1955), best known as a leading pioneer and promoter of linocut printmaking during the inter-war period.

Potts Point, NSW: Hordern House., 2001. Limited edition, one of 300 copies printed. Thick quarto. Publisher's original light-green cloth with printed paper title label to the upper board and titles blocked in dark green to the spine. Pictorial endpapers. Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece, twenty maps and illustrations, and eight colour plates. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm with a very minor mark to the spine and a couple of faint marks to the top edge of the lower board. The contents remain clean and crisp throughout. The only edition in English of Freycinet's comprehensive examination of early New South Wales, one of the most important historical texts to deal with Australian settlement, and especially with the city of Sydney. The original text appeared as chapters 29 to 40 of the 'Historique' section of Freycinet's 'Voyage autour du Monde' (1824-1844), and is here translated from the French by Thomas Cullity, with an additional introduction and notes.
