Appleton-Century-Crofts, 1949. Hardback. Good/No dust jacket. GOOD+ No dust jacket. Has small reat is head and tail of spine and worn corners. The interior of th ebook is clean with no marks in the text. The binding is solid. . . . . . From Fulton J. Sheen s Introduction: I first came to know the author of this book a little over two years ago; since then, I have had both direct contact with him ââ¬â not only in America, but also in China, which we both visited last spring. He is a Croat priest wo spent eighteen months incognito as an officer attached to the Red Army, six of these traveling inside Russia itself. I know that the story of this spiritual Odyssey behind the Iron Curtain is authentic. (Indeed, it is the very authenticity of his account which makes it necessary for this priest to use an assumed name: the need for anonymity increases in direct ratio to the fear and tyranny of a political milieu.) I know the…

University of Iowa Press, 1978. Hardback. Very Good. Second Printing (1978) VERY GOOD+ in very good dust jacket. Binding is tight and square. No marks in book. Dust jacket is in protective mylar. . . . . . . 195 Lectures, after-dinner speeches, and interviews arranged in chronological order and each one introduced with background notes. . . . . FROM THE INTRODUCTION: Sam Clemens, just turned twenty, made his first speech, an impromptu, at a printers? banquet in Keokuk on January 17, 1856. It was a tentative approach to a long career as lecturer and dinner speaker, as advocate of causes, and introducer at meetings charitable and political. By late middle age he was a veteran in demand for all sorts of occasions, from formal dinners to fund-raising campaigns. During the last decade of his life, as world citizen of international fame, he was regarded as an authoritative spokesman on all human affairs, so great an attraction that his presence at a function assured its success.

William Faulkner is a legendary southern USA author - his books are among the best fiction in the American literary field. His younger brother, John Faulkner, also had the gift of storytelling, except here it's not fiction, but warm and brotherly insights into life with his older and more famous brother. The book is a great read even if you don't know much about William Faulkner, or southern life in the early 20th century (read their wiki pages for a quick bio synopsis to prep if not), and also if your a historian on such matters. This book is a welcome addition to any home library! -- Dean Carter

Description:
Oxford University Press, 1996. Hardback. Very Good. Out-Of-Print -- 29 Volume Set (Complete) All are Very Good to Very Good+ Most appear unread. Many would be like new except for blind stamp on front end paper. Each volume is in a protective plastic sleeve . . . . . Colorful, irreverent, romantic, skeptical, a master of comic asides, a bittersweet humorist, and an unflinching critic of human pretensions, Mark Twain speaks to us across time with verve and wisdom. On the occasion of the centennial of his death, Oxford issued a 29 volume landmark collection, The Oxford Mark Twain. In addition to gathering together most of the writings published by Twain in the U.S., each volume is introduced by one of our most eminent writers. Their essays combine critical insights and personal appreciations of Twain as a fellow writer. An interpretive essay by a leading scholar that sets the book in its context concludes each volume. At the heart of each is a facsimile edition of Twain's original which captures its…

Unread - No marks. 96 pages : illustrations (some color), maps ; 25 cm. . . . . . . . . Distinguished by their red Jerboa shoulder flash, the Desert Rats proved masters of desert fighting. As part of O'Connor's Western Desert Force, they helped destroy the Italian forces at Beda Fomm on 5-7 February 1941; then they fought toe-to-toe with Rommel's Deutsches campaign that ended in victory in May 1943. Next they were involved in the major amphibious landing at Salerno, fighting on in Italy until withdrawn to spearhead British forces in Normandy. The division learnt new skills in the bocage countryside and from then on was hardly ever out of action, advancing through France and Belgium and on to Germany, where it took the surrender of Hamburg. These tough troops were then honoured by being chosen to go to Berlin to take part in the great Victory Parade of 1945.

Schiffer Military / Aviation History, 1996. Hardback. Collectible: Very Good. Signed by the Author, Frank S. Losonsky, who was the Crew Chief with the AVG - this is his story. VERY GOOD in very good dust jacket. Clean in text. No marks. Binding is sound, tight and square. . . . . . . FROM THE DUST JACKET FRONT FLAP: This new book is the war diary of a Flying Tiger American Volunteer Group crew chief from the 3rd Pursuit Squadron. Much of the Flying Tiger history is written from the pilot's viewpoint. These brave pilots deserve much praise, but those who fixed the aircraft and kept them flying also have a story to tell. Though their story is perhaps not as flashy, it is quite interesting and very much in tune with the everyday spirit of that intense period before America entered the World War II. This book contains Losonsky's war diary, which is supplemented with interviews and dialogue, and includes over 200 unpublished photographs. This format provides the reader with a multi-dimensional view of the…
