Description:
Philadelphia: Lindsay & Blakiston, 1879. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. 370 pp, indexed and illustrated. Original green cloth binding, worn at corners, with fraying and a small tear at the head of the spine. Pale stainon front board, remnants of a bookseller's label or bookplate on front pastedown, and, sadly, a few pages (less than 10) with underlining in ink. Binding loosening a bit, but still sound. A good reference copy of the uncommon first edition. Galabin was a British physician who wrote extensively on obstetrics and gynaecology but is best remembered for this textbook, which went through six editions between 1879 and 1903, and his Manual of Midwifery, first published in 1886.

New York: The Truthseeker Co, 1918. Softcover. Good. Revised and enlarged edition. 32 pp, in original stapled wrappers. Dampstaining and chipping to wrappers, text clean. Gauvin (1881-1978) was a notable author and speaker in the Freethought movement. London: R. Blamire, 1792. Hardcover. Very good. Third edition. 8vo, pp ix, 152, with 17 acquatint plates, bound in three-quarter leather and marbled boards. Some rubbing and scuffing to leather, two plates trimmed very close to fore edge margin, binding sound, text clean. Conetmporary ownership signature (dated 1794) on title page. Gilpin, an educator and writer on art, "travelled widely in Britain, with his notebook and sketching materials, in order to identify locations which offered that particular kind of beauty in landscape 'which is agreeable in a picture'. Picturesque tourism constituted 'a new object of pursuit', as he wrote in the first of these books, Observations on the River Wye (1782): the practice recommended was 'that of not merely describing; but of adapting the description of natural scenery to the principles of artificial landscape'. Further picturesque books, with aquatint reproductions of Gilpin's pen-and-wash drawings, included Observations on Cumberland and Westmorland (1786),…

Description:
New York: Adolph Wittemann, 1884. Hardcover. Good. 3.25" x 5", oblong, embossed red paper boards stamped in gilt. According to Ron Tyler (unpublished work on 19th century lithographs). Glaser used a "multi-stone lithographic process to achieve a monochromatic effect that seems to have been rare if not unknown among American lithographers. Using five or more stones, they laid down a series of separate shades ranging from white to light sepia-grey to the darkest sepia-grey or black. The finished lithograph has a varnished look that creates greater illusion of depth than a simple lithograph or toned lithograph." two-panel panorama of the suspension bridge over the Mississippi, St. Anthony Falls, Washburn's Flouring Mills, Nicollet Ave, City Hall, Boston Block, Washington Ave, Syndicate Block, State University, railroad depoot, schools, several churches and a synagogue, Minnehaha Falls in summer and winter.
