From the dustwrapper: "The spaceship 'Ariadne' had fought her last fight. The men aboard her were expecting to die. Then a voice spoke out of sapce. The speaker said that he was Hansekar, the overlord of the planet Canistra and that he wished to help them. To that end, he transmitted a radio beam and the Ariadne homed in on it, crashing in the forest of the tree ferns. Presently Hansekar and his retinue appeared on the scene. They were robots all, very ancient robots, the sole survivors of a once great civilisation. And yet there was a mystery about them, for it soon proved that they represented a level of technology which even the Canistrans had never reached. London: Lawrence and Wishart, 1941. Reprint. . Soft cover. Fair / Good. Reprint. Paperback. 19.5 × 13.5cm, 145pp. This copy was owned and signed by Graeme Shankland (1917-1984), an architect, town planner, and Communist who didn't care too much for the old Victorian townscapes, but created enormous programmes of renewal in 'outworn' Victorian city centres (his plan for Liverpool was apparently incredibly brutal, earning him the sobriquet 'the Butcher of Liverpool' from fellow architects and conservationists. He also drew up plans for Hook in Hampshire, but local opposition successfully thwarted these plans. First published in 1908, Plekhanov's purpose was to elaborate historical materialism in the context of the general philosophical outlook of Marxism. Condition: Fair condition. The covers are tanned to the edges and bumped to the spine. There is some creasing to the the pages but it remains in good readable condition.

London: Thames & Hudson, 2010. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/Good. First edition. Large hardback in dustwrapper. 30.5 × 25cm, 375pp. This book offers an entirely new understanding of the photographer's extraordinary career and its overlapping contexts of journalism and art. Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) is one of the most influential and beloved figures in the history of photography. His inventive work of the early 1930s helped define the creative potential of modern photography. Following World War II, he helped found the Magnum photo agency, which enabled photojournalists to reach a broad audience through magazines such as Life while retaining control over their work. Cartier-Bresson would go on to produce major bodies of photographic reportage, capturing such events as China during the revolution, the Soviet Union after Stalin's death, the United States in the postwar boom and Europe as its older cultures confronted modern realities. Published to accompany an exhibition at…
