Description:
In Roma, Appresso Vitale Mascardi, 1662. 8vo. 29 leaves. 139 pages. 1 great folding copper engraving. Contemporary full vellum. First Edition. Very rare manual of cartography by Giovanni Battista Nicolosi (1610-1670), the author of the famous atlas "Dell'Hercole" (1660) and the greatest southern Europe cartographer of the 17th century. Although he claimed to be a follower of geocentrist theory, as shown in the present work, Nicolosi was in fact a secret admirer of Galileo, admiration that was revealed after his death by his unpublished manuscripts. Great folding plate with several figures. Browned paper, a few water stains.
