Description:
Kjobenhavn: Gyldendalske Boghandels Forlag (F. Hegel & Son), 1883. First Edition (NAP) . Three Quarter Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Norwegian language. Bound in three-quarter leather with marbled boards; 235 pages plus contents. The spine is in five compartments, with the titles in numbers two and four. 1883 date to the title page; no additional printings. This copy was first owned by University of Wisconsin (Madison) professor of Scandinavian Languages Julius E. Olson, with his signature to both the third blank, dated 1884, and the title page. Also present on the front pastedown is the later bookplate of Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad. Marginal brackets on pages 13 - 15 only. This may be a rebind, as the endpapers look like those used by those rebinding books; if so, still an attractive copy. The front joint does have a split (2.25") at the lower edge; otherwise the leather is rubbed and a bit scuffed, though the titles…

Description:
Tubingen: J. C. B. Mohr (Paul Siebeck), 1930. Soft cover. Fair. Charts. Softcover in mustard wraps; 144 pages. With two folding charts at the rear. German government systems in effect during the Weimar Republic. The wraps are edgeworn and rubbed, with a chip upper left and to the head and heel of the spine. There is a hole in the rear cover, which appears to be the result of a dog bite; the damage affects the final folding chart a bit but does not disfigure it. There is piece of masking tape as a repair to the verso of the chart. The spine is wrinkled and splitting but appears stable; all lettering is still present. The paper shows some toning but is not brittle. A decent reading/reference copy, uncommon in the United States. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall

Description:
Hamar: Ciget Forlag / Prentab hjaa D. Arnesen, 1876. Hardcover. Very Good. Norwegian language. Bound in brick cloth with titles stamped in gilt; 97 pages. Stated as "second thousand" (andre tusundet) on the title page and dated 1876, so a likely second printing, issued in the same year as the first edition. The signature of Julius E. Olson, the second Professor of Scandinavian Languages at the University of Wisconsin (Madison), appears on both the front free endpaper and the title page. The front pastedown carries the bookplate of Norwegian-American collector Herman Gimmestad, who likely acquired the book in Madison, where he attended college in the 1940s. The cloth shows only very light wear at the extremities. The spine has the remains of a title label, with the printing no longer visible. The area between the second blank and the title page is slightly pulled, but there is no actual separation in the binding. Hinges solid; binding square. A clean, tight copy of an uncommon early…

Description:
Reykjavik: A Kostnad Sigm. Gudmundssonar, 1884. Soft cover. Very Good-. Icelandic language (at least we suppose so - it's difficult to differentiate from Norwegian and Danish). Bound in the original printed wraps; 76 pages. An Icelandic saga of medieval origin. Signed by the publisher, Sigm. Gudmundsson, to Professor Rasmus B. Anderson, one of the era's preeminent Norse researchers and a professor of Scandinavian Languages at the University of Wisconsin (Madison). The rear wrap carries other titles by this publisher. The wraps have been reinforced at the spine with an old-fashioned cloth tape, which appears to have kept this fragile volume together over the years. The outer wraps show mild toning and are slightly chipped at the edges. Internally the paper shows only faint toning and is not brittle; there is a slight bump at the upper corner. Very scarce in any form. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall
