Concord, N.H.: printed for the author, 1819. First edition, 12mo, pp. 151, [1]; original drab paper wrappers, some staining; spine partially perished; paper toned; otherwise good and sound. A full account of the crimes and trial of Elijah Putnam Goodridge (1787-1851), compiled by Joseph Jackman, a tavern owner whom Goodridge framed for theft. On the night of December 19, 1816, Goodridge, who claimed to be traveling from Bangor to Boston, staged his own robbery on the roadside. The performance included shooting his own hand and slicing himself with a razor. He framed two brothers, Levi and Laban Kenniston, Jackman, and the innkeeper Ebenezor Pearson. Goodridge's crimes were exposed during trial and his victims were ruled not guilty. The attorney for the defense was Daniel Webster (1782-1852), who would later serve as Secretary of State. Goodridge was later hanged by a mob in Newburyport. American Imprints 48361; Sabin 27930.

Concord N. H.: printed for the author, 1819. 12mo, pp. 151, [3]; stitched as issued in drab blue wrappers; corners bumped, short tears to wrappers,some foxing; good and sound. Elijah Putnam Goodridge conspired to fake a robbery and accuse two brothers of the crime. Daniel Webster was the defending attorney, and was able to expose the conspiracy. Signed by the author on the half-title, original order form laid in. Dean of University Libraries at Indiana University sails alone from Marblehead to Cork.

Front flyleaf inscribed by James Jackson, Sr. A paternal homage to the author's son, who had studied and made an important study on the cholera epidemic raging through Paris during his time there. This was published upon his return to the United States in 1832, 2 years before his death of tuberulous percarditis at the age of 24, a devastating blow to his father. "[Jackson Sr.'s] memoir of his son is an interesting psychological document in that it is entirely objective and almost wholly devoid of any evidence of the deep feeling which prompted him to write it" (DAB V, p. 546). Philadelphia: published by M. Carey and Son, 1820. First edition, 8vo, pp. 38; removed from binding, wrappers wanting; the whole rather browned, waterstain at the top of the title page; all else very good. Jackson was president of the Philadelphia Board of Health. He believed that Yellow Fever was associated with putrescent animal matter. Austin 1042: "An attempt to trace the causes of the slow progress of medical science." American Imprints 1776; Cordasco 20-0331.

Washington: G.P.O., 1906. 8vo, 174pp., 42 illus. on 28 plates and a large folding map; a very good, sound copy in orig. brown cloth gilt. In 1891 the government purchased a herd of reindeer from Siberia, thereby beginning a program for their importation into Alaska for "domestic purposes."

A cataloguing note to an electronic version recorded in OCLC contains the following: "Proceedings and resolutions of a meeting of the freemen of Providence, held on January 28, 1809, its object being to take into consideration the alarming situation of the country, arising from the several embargo laws, and especially the last, and to adopt such measures as may be thought proper for the security and safety of our rights and liberties."
