Description:
Williamsburg, Virginia: Printing Office Of The Williamsburg Foundation. Fine in Very Good dust jacket. 1972. Softcover. Written as a tract to inform Delegates to the Continental Congress, the Summary View impressed some Delegates sufficiently that they had it printed as a pamphlet by Clementina Rind, the only woman printer in Williamsburg. In this tract, Jefferson's eloquently expressed grievances against King George III and Parliament showed his compositional skill and were instrumental in his being selected to write the Declaration of Independence. This facsimile edition was set in Caslon type and letterpress printed and bound by the Printing and Post Office, Williamsburg, Virginia. On fine, cream paper. As with other copies we've handled, the type was deeply struck by an enthusiastic printer. Comprised of three gathers, side stitched with what appears to be flax twine or cord. In overall Fine condition.; Narrow 8vo 8" to 9" tall; 23 pages .

Description:
Amsterdam, Netherlands: Surrealistisch Kabinet. Very Good. 1968. Softcover. Wear and creasing to all edges of the wraps. Diagonal, light crease to the back. Tiny white spot to front.; This is Ted Joans' (1928-2003) 12-line poem The Truth, which he occasionally titled The Poet in readings. In this book, the composition of the poem's lines differs significantly from Joans' original composition of lines, which he used consistently in readings and printed form. This alternate composition appears to be unique to this Surrealistisch Kabinet edition. Compared to Joans' original composition, this is composed in staggered, alternating lines of different typefaces and cases. Compared to the original, this composition combines some short lines into longer ones, and breaks some longer lines into shorter ones, sometimes lines of a single word. "IF YOU SHOULD SEE A M A N / walking down in a crowded / street // talking // ALOUD // TO HIMSELF // DON'T RUN // IN THE // OPPOSITE DIRECTION // BUT RUN // TOWARDS HIM //… Read More

Description:
Portland, OR: The Chamberlain Press. Fine. 1985. Limited/Numbered Signed Edition. Hardcover. This very old, European folk tale is here retold with subtle humor by children's book author Kenneth Jones. The tale is of hungry travelers who are denied food by distrustful, selfish townspeople. The travelers produce their iron cooking pot, fill it with water and large stones, build a fire under it, and tell the townspeople that they're making a delicious stone soup that they will share with all. They pleasantly cajole someone into bringing them some garni to 'improve' the soup, then talk others into bringing some vegetables, then meats, seasonings, and everything required for a hearty soup that is ultimately shared and eaten by all. The travelers use the villagers' own foolish self-interest to trick them into collaboration that produces benefit for all. This is copy 137 of a limited edition of 150. Numbered and signed in pencil by the illustrator, printer, and publisher Sarah Chamberlain. 6 3/4" x 5 1/4".… Read More

Description:
Québec, Canada: 93 Publishing. Fine with no dust jacket. c.1970s. Facsimile. Hardcover. Thirty-one hymns or poems to the Star Goddess. Although unstated in the book, the Star Goddess is Nuit, the highest deity in Thelema, an esoteric, occult spiritual philosophy defined by Aleister Crowley, an English occultist and writer. The Table of Contents lists the 31, all poems of tribute to and worship of Nuit, but all written in first-person observation of nature and cosmology. Only 1 found in OCLC, this edition is a facsimile of the rare original 1923 edition composed, printed, and published in Chicago by the great designer, typographer, and bibliographer Will Ransom. The original was printed in the second year of Ransom's publishing venture, Will Ransom, Maker of Books, and was an example of his belief that the private press should present new works instead of classic works. This c.1970s facsimile reproduces the original 1923 edition, excepting the colophon. The author XIII, or Achad,… Read More

Description:
No Place Stated: The Viking Press. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1928. First Edition Thus; First Printing. Hardcover. All extremities lightly bumped and a bump to the edge of the spine. Spine slightly darkened. Slightly shaken. Lacks the dust jacket. ; Volpone; Or, the Fox, first presented in 1605, is Ben Jonson's dark satire of high society, abuse of privilege, and the greed of Volpone's parasitic acquaintances who desire his worldly fortune. This is Jonson's drama rewritten into a different version for the stage by Stefan Zweig, the Austrian novelist and playwright. Ruth Langer translated this version from the German. In this "cleaned up" adaptation some of the lust and lechery has been removed, the dwarf, hermaphrodite, and eunuch have been written out of the story, and a courtesan has been written in. The cover, pastedown, and endpaper pattern; frontispiece; and initial letter were all drawn by Aubrey Beardsley and previously appeared in The Bodley Head edition.… Read More
