Full red morocco, richly ornamented smooth spines, triple gilt fillet framing the boards with corner finials, green morocco title and tomes labels, gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges, endpapers of Augsburg spangled gilt paper (Crucifix). The third edition, published on the same date as the original, of this immediately censored text, which marks a fundamental milestone in the history of pedagogy. First Edition of this theoretical work by Rameau, in which he deepens the reflection undertaken in his 'Demonstration of the principle of harmony' (1750). For him the principle of instinct for music is no longer limited to be the basis of all the arts of taste, but also of all sciences subject to calculation (see Bibliothèque Nationale, Rameau Exhibition). Extremely valuable copy printed on thick paper and presented by Rameau to Louis Alexandre Catherine Duport de Montplaisant (1691-1774), "président à mortier" of the Parliament of Dijon, the hometown of the famous composer. First Edition, extremely rare, published simultaneously with an edition in Spanish, of the account in Portuguese of the celebrations performed in Lisbon during the visit of King of Spain Philipp III for the presentation of his son, the future Philipp IV. The work was redacted by Joao Baptista Lavanha (1550-1624), a Portuguese geographer and historian hired by the Spanish crown. It contains the detailed description of the festivities, ceremonies and speeches which took place during the King's visit, as well as the text of a theatre play performed by the Jesuits ("El rei D.
