Description:
An archive of 18 gossipy, poignant and waspish letters from Terence Rattigan to his close friend, the stage designer and director, William Chappell. Most date from the 1970's towards the end of his life from his home in the Bahamas. Much mention throughout of his troubled relationship with 'The Midget' i.e. Michael Franklin, his younger lover / companion for many years who often exhibits disturbing behaviour and threatens suicide regularly. The letters are usually on his personal headed paper unless he is writing from a hotel. The letters, 18 in total include one two-sided H/W postcard and a printed telegram and are all in very good condition. Eight have retained their original envelopes helping to date them, though the postmarks on one or two are obscured and difficult to read. To include : 1) A [6 page] letter from Florida, undated which might be the earliest of the sequence. 'Well here I am, ducky, lying on a chaise longue with a pair of sky blue shorts revealing intoxicating glimpse of bronzed…

Sole UK Printing published by the Camberwell Press in 1996. 37.5 cm square. The BOOK is in Fine condition. This is number 131 from a limitation of just 225 books. The book is Signed and Numbered by Brian Webb. The series of coloured lithographs from the original edition of Submarine Dream was stochastically screened from original prints and printed on Canaletto paper at the Camberwell Press. The cover design is based on a design by Tirzah Ravilious. At the outbreak of WWII,Eric Ravilious became an official war artist along with Edward Bawden and John Nash. During the summer of 1940 he painted submarine operations at HMS Dolphin in Hampshire. Over the following months he produced a series of lithographs based on his submarine drawings which were printed in a small edition at Cowells of Ipswich, his first choice, the Curwen Press, having been bombed. Ravilious went on to further assignments. On his last, a flight over Iceland in 1942, he was reported missing, presumed dead. He was 39 years of age. This…

Description:
The sole UK printing published by Paragon Publishing Works, London in 1916. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Very slight edge wear. Covers slightly darkened to edges but the book remains in remarkable condition despite its age and cheap production. The poet/painter's third separate publication, which like its predecessors were printed at his own expense and privately distributed. The tittle is slightly deceptive, as a small group of poems, including war poems, are appended. A few tiny 'corrections' to the text have been neatly made by the publishers as usually encountered. The binding is stitched with the bright yellow wrappers glued on from the back end-paper. A very rare book in remarkably good condition. Housed in a custom solander box with gilt titling and marbled paper lining. Scarce. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

Original buff fragile paper wrappers with titling to the front cover in black. Some loss to the upper and fore edge of the front cover and also the upper edge of rear cover. The covers are lightly toned to the edges and there are some minor professional repairs to the spine. No inscriptions and the 18 pages of contents are complete. Some very light creasing to the outer edges of some of the pages. A very good copy of this exceptionally fragile publication which is now protected in a loose Mylar archival cover. This was the second of only three poetry pamphlets that Rosenberg published in his lifetime. This work, containing 22 poems, was published in a run of roughly 100 copies just prior to his enlistment in the army. Rosenberg attended the Slade School and quickly became one of the most celebrated of the British war poets, before his untimely death on the Western Front in 1918.…
