Description:
267 pages. Small stain on flyleaf, bears bookplate and signature of Prof. K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Binding absolutely sound, all pages tight and bright, with perhaps a little age-darkening.Reinhold Röhricht (1842-1905) was arguably one of the most indefatigable, intensive, thorough and meticulous compilers, editors and organizers of materials relating to the history and topography of the Holy Land and the Crusades. Although not an historical synthesizer nor indeed an historian, but perhaps more of an antiquarian and researcher, Röhricht virtually singlehandedly laid the foundation for modern historical research and study of the Crusades.Although somewhat dated now, his critical edition of materials relating to the First Crusade still remain of value to modern historians

Not ex-library, no markings of any kind, completely clean.Marchese Roberto Ridolfi (1899-1991) from an ancient and prominent Florentine family, was a brilliant self-taught biographer and writer (the "…one great Italian analytical bibliographer of the 20th century" according to Prof. Conor Fahy of Birkbeck College). He wrote highly esteemed biographies of, among others, Savonarola and Guicciardini and avoids abstract philosophizing and concentrates on biography, the life of the real person in his real environment, and the interplay between his private and public life.
This is the Marchese's last revision of the English edition, where he updated some errors iincluded in the original Italian edition.

Description:
Near Fine; a couple of small tears at front bottom of dust jacket, some tanning of dust jacket spine and top edge and a little soiling on back; volume itself in near fine/fine condition except for a few very small stains on front page edges.. A hard-to-find first edition of Rubinstein's classic investigation into the mechanisms and strategists used by the Medici to maintain control and authority in a milieu where they had no more formal power or authority than other citizens. Based on hitherto unresearched archival material, Rubinstein goes far beyond the typical histories of Medici personalities to illustrate the complex workings of Florentine society, its electoral processes, governance and constitution, as well as the opposition to the Medici and the eventual fall of the regime.
