Princeton University Art Museum has a copy of this etching which is described as a "faithful copy after an oil sketch originally painted on wood by Rubens between 1613 and 1615, depicting an unknown man of African descent expressing various emotions." [ see art museum at Princeton collections- objects/9044] Condition: Very good overall condition except for slight chip and tape remnant in upper left corner and very slight tear on upper margin, tape remnant on right margin, some sunning likely from previous frame. The albumen print shows Remington standing full length, holding a painter's palette and brushes docketed on verso, "Fred Remington on stage at Leary's Studio." Additional notation from the former owner of the photograph, photography collector and dealer Howard Daitz, notes Remington's birth and death dates and basic biographical information. In a third hand, the artist's name is written in pencil in the upper right corner. The photograph measures 8 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches attached to 7 x 9 inch board and both show some overall sunning, fading and aging. The two lower corners are bent at their tips. There is a crack in the albumen print at midpoint of left margin of about two inches appears to have been secured by affixing the print to the hard board. Our research suggests this is a unique image of Remington. Autograph

Autograph Letter Signed, with illustration, 3 pages on bifolium measuring 7 x 9 1/4 inches with sketch on page one, London, March 10, 1821. Rennie writes to Admiral Viscount Keith (1746-1823) giving details about constructing an embankment for his estate, Tullliallan, in Scotland. At the time Rennie wrote this letter, he was renown for designing and building bridges, canals and harbors throughout England. Here he provides design details for the proposed embankment and sketches the slope he prefers on the first page. He provides greater detail in accompanying drawings rendered in another hand. Towards the end of the second page, Rennie refers to his construction, the Southwark Bridge. "The tolls of the Southwark Bridge are not increasing so fast as could be wished, the bridge itself is in a perfect state of security more so even than I expected...." Rivera discusses future exhibitions and current work in this typed letter to Reginald Poland, Director of The Fine Arts Gallery, San Diego (1925-1950. Rivera arrived in San Francisco with Frida Kahlo in November of 1930 and went to live with Ralph Stackpole, the American sculptor, painter and muralist at 716 Montgomery Street, a locale that acted as a social center for the artistic community in San Francisco. They lived at that address with Stackpole until they left San Francisco in June, several months after Rivera wrote to Poland. Rivera discusses the possibility of an exhibition in San Diego. "Thank you for your interest... I took the matter up with Mr. Rollins of the California Palace of the Legion of Honor and tried to arrange for an exhibition in San Diego. But it was impossible because almost the entire exhibit was loaned...." Robeson is shown in bust length close up. With black ink, he signs in full, "Paul Robeson." Docketed on verso, "5th October 1933." A fine image of one of America's most important multi-talented stars of both stage and screen. Robeson took a strong stand on black civil rights but was also suspected of being a Communist. Recognized as one of the most consequential US presidents, Franklin Roosevelt decides a legal question allowing fish to be transported in refrigerated meat trucks. Typed Letter Signed, on White House stationery bearing the watermark of the Presidential seal, from aboard the "U.S.S. Houston," 2 separate 4to pages, Oct. 14, 1935. "...there appears to be nothing which would hinder the fishing industry from utilizing the refrigerator cars belonging to others..." Roosevelt writes to U. S. Marshall John J. Murphy (Boston, MA) agreeing to allow the fish companies to transport fish in the refrigerated cars owned by meat packing companies.  Murphy sent a 5 1/2 page typed memorandum, included, explaining in great detail the transportation problem the fishing industry faced .
