Description:
Placerville, California: Hutchings, 1854. First Edition. . No Binding. Very Good +. C Nahl. An informative and wonderfully pictorial Letter Sheet of the California Indians in a period of decline and stress, who's customs and daily habits of dress, gathering, transportation and entertainment were little studied or understood. Hutchings letter Sheet (as well as other letter sheets of the period) were intended to be sent to loved ones in the east where they informed the rest of the world what and how the native Californian lived. Thankfully we have Hutchiings rendering today to aid our renewed interest in our native state. This copy with light creases and small spotting otherwise a near fine copy in blue wove, unrestored and with no tears, chips or holes. A single sheet with no signs of a blank folding leaf having been removed or ever present.

San Jose, CA: Mercury Steam Print, 1882. First Edition. . Hardcover. Very Good +. The legend of Joaquin Murietta is a lengthy and circuitous tale of many facts mired in little contemporary documentation. Rollin Ridge first told the story in The Life and Times of Joaquin Murieta in 1854 and the outlaw was reportedly captured by Harry Love and his head displayed in a Stockton museum. Scarce in the marketplace and at auction.the book was overlooked by Cowan, Howes, Wheat, Rocq and all of the many California bibliographies. Streeter purchased the Eberstadt copy.who described Rosita as "a most unusual item." A rare and important California book .this copy in a brilliant deep blue with edge wear and light scuffing, internally fine with no markings, names, stains, tears or library stamps. Original end papers and…
