Description:
NY: Dial Press, 1968. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good +. First edition of the1969 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award play inscribed by playwright Sackler on the ffe: "for Marshall with ever increasing admiration - thanks". We can speculate that Marshall might be Marshall Brickman, accomplished screenwriter (Oscar for "Annie Hall") and playwright (Tony Award for the book of "The Jersey Boys") who, born in 1939, would have been a NY theatre contemporary of Sackler (1929 - 1989). Book near fine except for a dusty top edge, apparently unread (no bookplates, etc) in unclipped dustjacket with modest surface wear at corners and spine tips. Distinctively, on the copyright page, this first edition copy has a pasted-in copyright statement, which was apparently neglected in some first printings of the first edition, but no issue point has been established that we are aware of.

Description:
NY: Dutton, 1955. 1st US Edition. Hardcover. Very Good +/Very Good -. Stated fourth printing - on copyright page and front flap of dustjacket - of the first American edition. Inscribed in English by the French Sagan on the ffe: "To Jane Putnam/ thanks for the party,/ and your welcome/ with very best wishes/ Francoise Sagan'. Signed copies of Sagan's book, particularly this her first book, are uncommon. The inscribee we believe to be a NY socialite to whom Sagan thanks for a party, perhaps on her publicity tour for this book, which was quite a sensation - Sagan's first novel at the age of 19 - with four printings in its first two months of publication, February-March 1955. Red cloth covers bit soiled as is the dustjacket which has some edgewear and is missing a pencil-eraser-tip sized piece head of spine.

Description:
(Berkeley): ("John Greenberg"), 1974. 1st Edition Thus. Soft cover. Very Good +. Unauthorized, anonymous publication, in two uniform volumes, of 22 of Salinger's early short stories written between 1940 - 1948 that originally appeared in magazines like The Saturday Evening Post, Colliers and Esquire. Two of the short stories feature Holden Caulfield, the subject of Salinger's 1951 breakthrough novel The Catcher in the Rye. After the phenomenal success of Catcher, Salinger refused to have these stories re-published in any format. A civil suit in Mr. Salinger's name was filed in October 1974 Federal District Court in San Francisco against "John Greenberg" and 17 major local bookstores, including Brentano's, alleging violation of the copyright laws. Besides the lawsuit, the appearance of the volumes in bookstores across the country prompted J. D. Salinger to come out of isolation and for the first time since 1951 break his silence and be interviewed by a reporter. He damned the illegal publication in…

NY: Simon & Schuster, 1970. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. DEDICATION COPY from author and Village Voice film critic to his editor and publisher Village Voice founding editor Dan Wolfe. Sarris (1928 - 2012) was the film critic at the Voice beginning in 1960, and the leading proponent of the auteur theory of film, and one of the nation's most influential film critics. After leaving the Voice he wrote for the New York Observor and then taught at Columbia University's film program. Dan Wolfe (1915 - 1996) founded the weekly Village Voice in 1955 along with psychologist Edwin Fancher and author Norman Mailer, a friend of Fancher. Sarris dedicates the book, a lot of which are essays that appeared in the Voice, to both Wofe and Fancher. Sarris inscribes the book to Wolfe on the ffe: "Dear Dan, Just a small token of my deep appreciation. And as for the Voice, today the Village! Tomorrow the world! Sincerely, Andrew Harris" Near fine copy in near fine unclipped dustjacket with a short tear…
