Description:
London: Bloomsbury, 1997 A portrait of the artist as a young manipilator, captured as the painter confronts his ghosts in old age. 279pp. Signed by the author to the title page. States that it was first published in Great Britain in 1977. This is undoubtedly a misprint since her previous novels all date from the 1990s.

Description:
London: J.C.Nimmo and Bain, 1884 What is the best paraphrase of the word Fan? The gentlemen of the Academy define it 'as a small piece of furniture which serves to set the air in motion' Others prefer an 'an air producing instrument' or alternatively 'a sort of portable screen with which ladies fan themselves.'143 pages later you should be much wiser if you can stay the pace because it's not the easiest of reads. However it is well decorated and illustrated by Paul Avril which is much in its favour.
