One of 500 copies printed and published by Elizabeth Corbet Yeats. Title woodcut pressmark ("Charging Unicorn") by Robert Gregory in red. The Cuala Press was half of Cuala Industries, founded and run by Lily and Elizabeth Yeats. Cuala Industries was founded with the intent of reviving book printing in Ireland and specifically "to give work to Irish girls" [McMurtrie, 472]. The name of the press, "Emer's fort" in Irish Gaelic, is a reference to the wife of the Irish mythological hero, Cú Chulainn and the studio and the press were notable for its all female staff of artists and printers. Yeats (1865-1939) is recognized as "supreme among modern Irish poets", winning the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1923 [the first Irish writer to do so].
