Description:
San Francisco: Grabhorn, 1941. First Edition. Large quarto, 14 pp. Cloth-backed decorated boards, spine label. Tipped in photo and halftone illus. Inscribed by Oscar Lewis to Louise Barr (?). Somewhat whimsical piece created for Bender's 75th birthday, but he died before printing was completed. Limited to 250 copies distributed to friends. Wonderful production as one would expect from this great press. Included is a Book Club of California folded sheet on Bender, as well as a color print: Albert Bender and other benders" (which smacks of racist humor). Spine is darkened and soiled, boards warped and sunned at edges; some offsetting, and a thick ink used for the inscription, else very good. The scarce print about fine.

Description:
n.p., n.d. (Detroit, ca 1997?). Machine lithograph, 18" x 22", printed in black and red on white background. Signed by the artist lower right. Fine. Poster published during the Detroit News Strike, when staff from Detroit's two major dailies, the News and the Free Press, striking over wages and conditions, left to form their own weekly tabloid, The Detroit Sunday Journal, which ran through 1999. The poster depicts four uniformed policemen forcibly removing a striking worker from the picket line, with the one-word caption "A' rest." On her website, Detroit graphic designer Susan Kramer identifies herself during this period "as an employee of the Detroit Newspaper Agency, active member of the Communication Workers of America...and assisted in publishing the Detroit Sunday Journal." Another of Kramer's posters, "Standing Strong in Detroit," was sold to raise more than $30,000 to support the strike (see: atdetroit-[dot]-com/susankramer).

Lviv, Ukraine: Kamenyar Publishers, 1983. First Edition. 12mo (16.5cm). Illustrated staplebound wrappers, 70pp. Mild rubbing to covers, internally clean. Very Good. A pro-communist pamphlet exposing members of the Anti-Bolshevik Bloc of Nations as nationalists and racists who have joined together to dissolve socialist and communist countries. Not much is known about the Soviet author, though he did publish two other pro-Soviet pamphlets (We Accuse: Documentary Sketch, 1984 and SS Werewolves, 1982), and this item is uncommon, with only five locations via OCLC, two in the US.

Description:
New York: Farrar, Straus, & Giroux, 2014. First Edition. Plain red boards in white printed dust jacket; small 8vo. 81 pp. The poet's second regularly published book. His poem "Here" a sonnet which opens the book is one of my favorite poems of the last several years. A lyric poet, charmingly formal, but with more than a hint of darkness. Fine copy in a like dust jacket (in removable protective archival cover).
