BEACONSFIELD'S MAXIMS by Benjamin Disraeli, 1st Earl of Beaconsfield (1804-1881) published by Humphreys in 1905 in London. Disraeli was a British statesman, Conservative politician and writer. He served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom twice, and made the Conservatives the party most identified with the British Empire and military action to expand it. Three-quarter leather with gilt rules to covers, five raised bands and gilt title to spine. Green marbled pastedown and endpapers, green ribbon page marker, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Corners lightly rubbed. With Hatchard's bookshop mark and light pencil number on free front endpaper, 6 ¼" high, 179 pp. No other markings, no bookplates. Pages are clean and bright, binding is tight. A handsome copy.

Published one year after the death of Lord Nelson. Bound in three quarter calf with marbled boards and marbled endpapers. Front board re-attached with binding tape. Size 8" x 5". Overall condition Good. All 7 plates present. Foxing is nearly entirely absent save for the very occasion spot. Tiny note in ink in old hand to margin of p.100, and stain to plate opposite page 100. One ¾" closed tear at margin on page 279. Faint stain p.296. Textblock in generally very good condition, with only very light toning.
