Description:
(Easthampton, MA): Pennyroyal Press, 1970. Moser, Barry. Quarto. (33)ff. From an edition of thirty-five copies reserved for distribution by the artist, this is Moser's own, with his bookplate inside the front cover, and with four additional proofs, each titled, signed, and dated in pencil. Contains ten wood engravings by Moser and six epigrams from the Anthologia Graeca translated by D.L. Graham, along with a list of plates. The six epigrams, in Greek and English, are printed with type ornaments in red, yellow, and olive. This is the first Pennyroyal book to use wood engravings. According to Moser's inscription, Bacchanalia represents "the first SUCCESSFUL (Moser's emphasis) wood engravings in my oeuvre. One terrible print... was done in 1968 or '69 but it was so disappointing I never made another until 1970 and then did so under the aegis of Fred Becker for a graduate course of printmaking at the University of Mass." Bound in stiff blue wrappers, with the title stamped in blind to the front cover.…

Description:
1993. Gorey, Edward. Watercolor and ink on paper, measuring 7 by 6 inches. Matted and framed. This illustration appeared on page 21 of the July 19, 1993 issue of Sports Illustrated. The image served as the lead-in to the "Anniversary" section, and it depicts an obscure baseball moment from 1893, when former player-manager Harry Wright suggested that umpires keep the ball-strike count secret until the at-bat was concluded. While this would have undoubtedly added an element of mystery to the game, wiser heads prevailed, baseball continued unchanged, and Wright, whose 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings went undefeated, was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1953. An uncommon sports-related commission by Gorey, whose pitcher almost seems en pointe in his delivery. Together with a copy of the printed magazine.

Description:
Glasgow: J. Lumsden & Son, 1814. 32mo. 48pp. Frontispiece and five additional engravings; for this copy, the plate usually found at 45/46 is bound at the rear. This copy, too, bears an 1814 watermark, suggesting an earlier date of publication than that determined by Roscoe and Brimmell, who claim 1818. Text block detached from wrappers, yet all elements only mildly soiled and leaves quite crisp and near fine. (Roscoe and Brimmell 53).

Description:
New York: American Tract Society, 1840. 16mo. 16pp. Title-page illustration, frontispiece, and two smaller text figures from wood engravings. Framed as a conversation between young George and his father, the text presents the life of bees as an extended metaphor for virtuous behavior. Despite the ubiquity of most American Tract Society publications, the present title appears quire rare, as it is held in just two institutional collections. Occasional light internal foxing, overall near fine in publisher's printed wrappers, which show some chips and short tears along extemities.
