Original light purple cloth with vertical oval silver paper on cover, silver lettering on spine; in original color-illustrated dustjacket with yellow and blue lettering on spine. Gray endpapers. Gilt emblem and lettering on red title page. Signed by photographer Eikoh Hosoe on front endpaper. Preface by Yukio Mishima, photographer's note by Eikoh Hosoe, and epilog by Mark Holborn. "Yukio Mishima, the most renowned writer in postwar Japan, shocked the whole world with his suicide in 1970. His ritual death created shock waves that drew more attention in the West than the sublime quality of his prose. Shortly before his suicide, he worked closely with Eikoh Hosoe, the celebrated photographer, to prepare a monumental edition of their epic achievement Barakei. This book is the first Western edition of that extraordinary collaboration between a visionary genius and a brilliant photographer."

Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1921. First edition. Hardcover. g. Quarto. XXXIX, [1], 460pp. Original green cloth with gold lettering and publisher's logo on spine. First English translation of the Babylonian Talmud: Tractate Berakot ('Benedictions') consisting of nine chapters of which only the last four are concerned with benedictions proper. Incidentally the conditions under which the Torah may be studied and the tefillin worn are also discussed. The recital of the tefillah is then dealt with on similar lines and its wording is discussed. Chapter…

Philadelphia: Brethren Encyclopedia, Inc, 1989. First edition. Quarto (11-1/4" x 8-3/4"). (6), 327, (1)pp. Double column text. Indices and bibliography. Dark brown cloth lettered in gilt. An ex-library copy with small rubber stamp on title page & bottom of text block and a library pocket on rear pastedown. The Brethren church tradition traces its roots back over 300 years to 1708. Eighteenth-century Europe was a time of strong governmental control of the church and low tolerance for religious diversity... Eventually all but a handful emigrated to America... The first congregation in the New World was organized at Germantown, Pa., in 1723. Soon after its formation, the Germantown congregation sent missionaries to rural areas around Philadelphia. These missionaries preached, baptized, and started new congregations. In 1781 these…
