Includes full signature of Mrs. Cleveland (4" in length) on "Executive Mansion" calling card, "Frances F.[Folsom] Cleveland" <br /> <br /> Frances Clara Cleveland Preston (née Folsom; 1864 - 1947) was First Lady of the United States from 1886 to 1889 and again from 1893 to 1897 as the wife of President Grover Cleveland. She remained active in civic issues following the Presidents passing, though not always on the right side of history, being actively involved against women's suffrage. Guiteau only four months later. Garfield survived the gunshot another for two more months where upon he was succeeded by his Vice President Chester Arthur. Garfield had been elected to the Senate before his candidacy for the White House, though he declined the Senate seat once he was elected President. During the Civil War he opposed Confederate secession and served as a major general and fought in the battles of Middle Creek, Shiloh and Chickamauga.
