Hinshaw 23G. Lowman Printer at the Pass 38 "Regarded by many as the greatest of all the Lea-Hertzog collaborations." – Lowman. This copy inscribed to Tom Prideaux "this small incentive to become, also, a Traveler to the Pass of the North. T. L. 5 March 1947." Prideaux was a senior editor of Life Magazine who worked with Lea when he was a war artist for Life. Many are interesting, including home remedies, such as one for internal problems, which starts with a pint of whiskey. Interesting picture of early Colorado cattle transactions. Receipt for sale of beef to a meat market laid in.

One page. 17" x 14", April 3, 1890, Monterey, California. The certificate, numbered "1010", has engravings of beef, goat, sheep, hogs, and a horse and is surrounded by a richly ornamented border. The document was issued to C. E. Chapman and is signed by G. W. Gallemar as secretary and B. V. Sargent as president. Folds and light staining, else very good.

"If you can secure a party of five or more representative men of your city to join our party by accompanying them yourself, advise me and I will arrange for your transportation. While South they can attend the Mardi Gras at New Orleans in February." An interesting look at the railroad promoting land sales by hosting excursions of prominent men from across the country.

One of the illustrations (Blind Man's Bluff) is a version, slightly reduced, of one of the illustrations on a set of "Cubic Metamorphosis" blocks produced in Nuremberg in 1850-1860. There is a label on the inside of the box for the retailer: "From Millington, 122 Sixth Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets." Further research may locate the retailer.

[Texas] [Civil War] S. H. Darcy. Autograph letter, signed. La Grange, Texas. June 4, 1863. To Mrs. Jones. One page. 8 x 10.5 in. Black ink on blue paper. Approximately 250 words.
La Grange, Texas, the county seat of Fayette County, was untouched by fighting during the Civil War. This letter gives an interesting view of the home front in 1863. A long discussion on getting a quantity of sugar, which would have been scarce and which "cost me by the hogshead 1 dollar a pound" but will let her have a pound for "less than 1 dollar and 25 cents." Mentions someone who traveled to Arkansas and saw her sister, indicating that the war had not yet disrupted travel of that sort. In addition, a number of Confederate militia companies were organized at La Grange. The letter writer indicates that a friend had a letter from "Wink" who says "they are ordered to the Rio grande." Civil war material of this type from La Grange is uncommon.

Contains printings of the "Acta constitutiva" of January 31, 1824, the Constitution of October 4, 1824, "Acta constitutiva de reformas" of May 18, 1847, and "Acta de reformas" of May 21, 1847, along with other documents, among which is a statement by Santa-Anna protesting his love of country and his patriotism (pp. 79-80). This document was issued against the background of the threat being posed by the U.S. invasion and the subsequent need to put the country's house in order, as is mentioned in the text. At this point, the Mexican army had already lost several important battles in northern Mexico and the Battle of Cerro Gordo.
