MOFFAT ROAD PRELIMINARY SURVEY A. J. WESTON & FRANK McOUATSignificant photograph album of one of the survey teams working on the construction of David H. Moffat's DENVER, NORTHWESTERN & PACIFIC RAILWAY, known as "The Moffat Road." These surveys took place in 1903 - 1904. This part of the survey was lead by A. J. Weston and the head of the geological survey party was Frank McOuat. The photographer, unfortunately, is not identified. The DENVER, NORTHWESTERN & PACIFIC RAILROAD was the last major railway project Moffat financed. Moffat died in 1911, before the railroad was completed. Photo album dimensions: 10-1/2 inches by 7-1/2 inches Average photograph size: 7 inches by 5 inches 24 gray-paper leaves 50 photographs, most albumen; several gelatin silver and one cyanotype. Near fine condition. Many excellent photographic images. Several Minnesota, Wyoming, Nebraska and Utah photographs. Unclear why these were included in this album. HOOPER for his service to the THE DENVER & RIO GRANDE RAILROAD since 1884 and also for assisting in the creation of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad's iconic Company emblem in 1885.According to an original article in The Denver & Rio Grande Western Magazine Volume 1, No. 11,September 1925: "The pin is seven-eighths of an inch in diameter and is made of both red and white gold, the finest black enamel, with platinum to represent the steam from the locomotive, and a small diamond representing the sun rising from behind Currecanti Needle in the background. Dimensions of each notebook diary: 4-3/8 inches by 7 inches; 120 pages each. Overall condition: very good to very good plus; one leather-bound notebook has a separated front hinge. Nearly every notebook diary has information on each page; two are are only partially filled with engineers' notes on the D&RGRR's trackage. Information written in both pencil and in period ink.Various named track engineers: J. W. Dens; J. G. Gwynn; R. H. Hedenskog; A. M. Long; A. L. Parish; J. E. Evans; W. E. Spencer; Chas. E. Wetherell; and L. E. Metz.
