Description:
[Hollywood], 20 September 1954.. [3],71 leaves, plus related documents as below. Quarto. Mechanically reproduced typescript, printed on rectos only. Bradbound in stencil printed wrapper. Some shallow coffee staining to the upper fore-edges of the leaves, otherwise very good. An early and extensive treatment for the multi-award nominated 1956 biopic, directed by George Sidney, based on a final screenplay adaptation of Katcher's story by Samuel L. Taylor and starring Tyrone Power, Kim Novak, Victoria Shaw, James Whitmore and others. This is a rather important copy of the treatment, sent by producer Jerry Wald to playwright and screenwriter Clifford Odets for his review. and comments. It is accompanied by a 2 June 1955 t.l.s. from Wald to Odets, on Columbia Pictures letterhead, forwarding the script: "I would be grateful if you would read this draft ... I am still making changes on it, but I have such a high regard for your opinion and suggestions, that I would welcome them -- good and bad. If you can…

Description:
Boston: Printed at the Riverside Press for the Massachusetts Historical Society, 1918.. Small quarto. Full dark blue-green crushed morocco, raised bands, gilt extra, gilt inner dentelles, t.e.g. by Riviere & Son. Portrait frontis. Gilt initials 'E.O.A." in center of upper board, spine a shade sunned, upper joint cracking slightly at tips, but a very good copy. First printing of the first public edition, one of an issue suggested to have consisted of approximately 250 copies bearing the imprint for Mass Historical. The text is offered as 'edited' by Henry Cabot Lodge, and the Preface is attributed to him; BAL mirrors scholarship in noting that Adams was the actual author of the Preface, and the editor omitted none of the original text. The binding on this copy is, of course, an exception. The Mass. Historical copies were bound in a fashion almost identical to the Houghton Mifflin copies, except without the publisher's spine imprint. BAL 39. REESE (NARRATIVES) 2.

Description:
London: Edward Moxon, 1844.. 12mo. Contemporary three-quarter morocco and marbled boards. Binding rather rubbed and edgeworn, otherwise a good copy, with Charles Dickens' lion bookplate and the Gadshill label at the front, and with the bookplate of John Gribbel at the back. Old bookseller's description tipped in front. The second edition, in which Procter took the opportunity "to strike out about forty of the poems (of inferior quality) contained in the old volume, and to introduce, in their stead, nearly seventy Poems, in rhyme, besides a considerable quantity of Dramatic verse" - "Preface to the Present Edition," dated "April 13th 1844." A presentation copy, inscribed on the title-page: "Charles Dickens / with the best Regards of / The Author." In THE DICKENS CIRCLE (New York, 1919, p. 169), J.W.T. Ley states: "We may take it as quite certain that Dickens came to know Procter through Forster. And from the first the novelist and the poet were on the best of terms. It was natural. Procter was a…

Description:
London: James Cawthorn, [1809].. vi,54pp. 12mo. Extracted from nonce pamphlet volume. Lacking the half-title, sewing separated, some external light soiling, otherwise a very good, crisp copy. First edition, Randolph's second "issue." The paper is watermarked 1805 (leaf 1/2 for instance), but 'Dispatch' appears in 5:7 (a stop-press correction not necessarily relating to sequence of issue). The remainder of the typographical features indicative of the two issues of the first edition cited by Randolph also appear. One thousand copies were printed, and numerous later editions and spurious reprints appeared. Wise's assertions about the points of "issue" involving the Preface have been discredited. HAYWARD 219. WISE I,19-23. TINKER 510. RANDOLPH, p.14.
