New York: Putnams, 1971. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/fine. Second book in the Riverworld series -- not quite as uncommon as the first, but still hard to find. Clean, solid copy -- slight rubbing to (unclipped) dustjacket, pages clean and bright and tight. tw

Description:
A heavily illustrated biography/bibliography/homage to the art of Hannes Bok, one of the major pulp magazine illustrators of SF and fantasy stories. His work influenced an entire generation of readers and writers: he's in many readers top 3 of pulp artists. Petaja founded the Bokanalia Foundation to keep memory of Bok's work alive. This copy is inscribed to Quinn (Yarbro) "with blessings and all best -- Hyve von! Hanska privat!" Petaja was of Finnish extraction; Yarbro's father was also Finnish, so Petaja inscribed the volume in Finnish. The Finnish translates as "Good luck! Fun days!" according to an attached Post-It note. Corners slightly curling, slight wear to covers; pages white, comb in fine condition. A nice copy of this important work on a pulp artist, heavily illustrated, with good associations.

Description:
Glen Ellen CA: Entwhistle, 1980. First edition. Hardcover. no dustjacket (as issued). Charles Stephenson. An amusing book about one Friday night in New York's Greenwich Village in the early-mid 1960s. The illustrations were done by the artist taking slides of many people (including author Norman Spinrad and author/editor John Silbersack) acting out the novel, then taking the pictures away and drawing sketches from them. This is one of 500 hardbound copies, but not one of the 200 numbered and signed copies -- it is, however, signed by Anderson on the half-title. The cream-colored boards show some smudges, and the spine is slightly discolored -- inside, the book is clean and nice. tw

Description:
Essay on language in fantasy by this celebrated author. Signed edition, #25 of 100 signed wraps copies: the signed edition had a tipped-in photo as the portrait, rather than the printed photo for the other copies: it is also on larger paper than the unsigned editions. This copy has a printed erratum leaf; the first few copies had a hand-written erratum leaf written by publisher Jeff Levin, later replaced by the printed one (sent separately, at least in my case). The signed edition is larger than the unsigned (13.5x21 cm); the hardcover (only 26 copies) is intermediate in size between them, with the sheet size 14x19 cm (add 1 cm in each direction for the binding!). (The hardcover is also signed by introduction author Vonda McIntyre; this edition isn't.) They do not fit well next to each other on the shelf. This copy is very near fine: there is a tiny discoloration on the front cover under the title, and very slight fading of a block on the upper right front cover (more visible in the photo than in…
