An attractive copy in half calf with marbled boards. Maps in excellent condition. Trace of old library stamp on title page.

Blackpool, for the author,1837, first edition, small 8vo, pp.345, plus errata leaf. With the folding pedigree of Tildesley. Bound in the original cloth, with leather title label. Front joint split and reapired, back joint partially split and a little weak, but still a sound, useable copy of this scarce book. Neat bookplate inside of the noted Blackpool historian W J Smith.

Manchester, W. D. Varey, 1828, two parts, Rochdale and Saddleworth, each with tile page and frontispiece of the respective parish churches. Contemporary half calf with marbled boards, very expertly re-backed. Covers a bit dull and rubbed, name inside, some staining mainly to the endpapers, but very sound condition. Bound at the back is Tabula Mancuniensis a rare 16 page pamphlet by Butterworth published in 1829 listing chronological events in the history of Manchester.

Oldham, J. Clarke, 1817, pp. xii, 212 plus advert leaf. Complete with the two folding maps and the multi-folding pedigree of the Radcliffes. Includes a directory of the town. Original printed boards as issued. Spine worn and defective, boards rubbed, but still tight and sound. Maps and pedigree in excellent condition, page 51/2 torn across, but nothing missing. Paste-downs with traces of an old paper cover, news cutting on front endpapers. A good copy and rare in this original condition and with the maps and pedigree intact (one map has a short repaired tear in the usual place).

Oldham,John Hirst,1856, new edition with an appendix containing the history of the town to date, pp.256 plus appendices and numerous interesting advertisements. Bound in contemporary, probably original calf which is a bit rubbed and chipped at spine ends. Contents a bit browned and thumbed, but a sound reference copy.

Ashton,1842, pp. (2),177,v. Plain binder's cloth without lettering, tape repairs to first leaf of text, last page a bit marked. A sound working copy of a scarce title. Not to be confused with the book which his father James wrote on Ashton. Presentation inscription from John Ross Culthart, a prominent banker in Ashton to the Venerable Archdeacon Rushton.

Burnely 1946 to 1951. Four volumes covering up to 1400, 1400 to 1660, 1650 to 1850 and from 1850. Original red cloth. Spines a bit dull, with some fading and light signs of use, but a good, sound set. Overseas postage will be expensive so please enquire.

Rawtenstall, Riley,1893, second edition, small 4to, pp. xx, 369, with 9 illustrations. Original cloth, a bir rubbed, some stains to back cover, endpapers browned, but still a tight and sound reference copy. Includes a list of subscribers. Much revised and enlarged from the first edition.

Bemrose and Whitehead, 1890. One of 500 large paper copies, signed by Smith. Original green cloth, slightly rubbed at spine ends, front inner hing cracking, some foxing at beginning and end, but still a good, sound copy. List of subscribers and complete with the large folding map.

Hyde, J. Andrew, 1936, pp. [16], 159. Original cloth-backed boards, numerous illustrations. Corners a trifle bumped, else very good, clean condition. Includes chapters on the old cricket clubs in the area and the hatting industry.

Manchester,Chetham Society, 1874, small 4to, pp.vi, 230, errata slip, with view of Kirkham Church and folding pedigree of the Westby family. Faint splash marks to the spine, else a good copy in the original cloth. Chetham Society, First Series, Vol 92.

Preston, Worthington, 1857, pp. xvii, 687, many engravings and a folding map (creased, but complete). Original blue cloth, gilt edges, spine dull and rubbed, but still tight and sound. A unique copy inscribed on the title page "with corrections and annotations by the author, Charles Hardwick 1876", also an inscription inside the front cover "J A Eastwood, 24 April 1877. from the Author". Numerous notes and corrections in ink throughout. Plates with dampstains to lower corners.

Blackburn,Toulmin,1889, first edition, pp.xiv,198,142, folding frontis. and other illustrations. Original cloth,a little rubbed and bumped on the spine ends, spine and part of back cover faded. A binding fault means the first few pages are slightly proud, but this is still a good, sound copy. The second part consists of reminiscences of the old Darwen families dictated to the author by Jeremy Hunt. Signature and bookplate of Richard Heape, the historian of Rochdale, who has added extensive family pedigree notes to the front paste-down.
