Delhi: Nag Prakashan, 2018. Third Edition. Hardcover. Royal octavo. xciv + 760pp. Bound in red cloth with gilt titles to front and spine. A large and heavy volume. Some light wrinkles to cloth (common with many Indian publications), a bit of rubbing to gilt on spine but appears to be an unread copy. Issued without dust jacket. Very good. This is Shastri's translation of the Kalika Purana which was originally issued in three separate volumes. This is the complete text and translation in a massive one-volume edition. The work belongs to the goddess-oriented Shakta branch of Hinduism. Most probably it was composed in or near medieval Kamarupa (modern Assam). Chapters 67 through 78 of the text constitute the Rudhiradhyaya which discusses bali (animal sacrifice) and of Vamacara Tantrism. The Rudhiradhyaya section is…

Dublin: Kerubim Press, 2012. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 362 pp. Limited to 100 hardcover copies (this is No. 17) SIGNED by Nick Farrell on publishers bookplate affixed to front free endpaper. Blue cloth with gilt spine titles. Illustrated in b&w. 2 tiny corner bumps, otherwise a fine copy in like dust jacket. Extremely scarce in hardcover. Over the years many myths have built up about one of the founders of the Golden Dawn, Samuel L. MacGregor Mathers. Many of these have been created by those who wish to damn the Golden Dawn and its system of magic or by those who want to naively believe a bogus magical story about the Order and its founders. Rather than painting Mathers as an eccentric genius, Farrell sees him as an autocratic fantasist. He sees Mathers struggling to keep up as his students rapidly became…
