A contemporary of Isidor Kaufmann, Lakos's approach to his Jewish subjects was one of respect, seeking to emphasize the nobility of the Jewish people in art. Attributed to Count Amadeo Preziosi (1816 1882) the "Maltese painter known for his watercolours and prints of the Balkans, Ottoman Empire and Romania. " (Wikipedia, 2017) Painted circa 1865, this work relates very closely to Preziosis celebrated lithograph of the same subject (Rubens no. 2425) which is held in the permanent collection of the Jewish Museum.
