Description:
Troy, NY: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), 1887. Hardcover. Good. Large folio (17 inches high), leatherbound, with clasps, good copy with heavy rubbing and dryness to leather and some loss to spine ends, contents very good to fine and still sturdily bound. Almost certainly the copy of John M. Lockhart of Pittsburgh (his brother James's Princeton photo album from 1887 was found right on top of this one) - John Lockhart, son of Charles Lockhart who was one of the founders of Standard Oil, graduated in 1887 and gave at least $5 million to RPI anonymously, identifying himself only as "The Builder" -- which went to building the gymnasium and other structures. There are 2 larger photographs (13 x 9.5 inches) of the main building and of the graduates, 68 cabinet sized photos (images 5.5 x 4 inches) of faculty and graduates, and 15 larger photographs (8.5 x 6.5 inches) of campus exteriors and interiors including the gym and a bowling alley. No copies located at Worldcat and we tried every search term…
