Photo-lithograph in green ink on wove paper, 125 x 222 mm (image); 185 x 265 mm (sheet), edge tears to margins, else very good. Lithograph by an unknown artist after an etching of Adelaide first published in Nixon's Views on Adelaide and its Vicinity (1845), the first South Australian view book. Little is known of these 1880s lithographic facsimiles, however another example is held in the National Gallery of Australia (NGA 2011.1196). For the 1845 edition, see Ferguson 4124; Wantrup 233.

Also titled: Images 80. Leek, Staffordshire : Macclesfield Community News, 1980. Tabloid newsprint, 450 x 290 mm, 20 pp, photographic illustrations throughout; toned at edges and along the light horizontal fold, otherwise in excellent condition. A very scarce complete copy of the official newspaper of the Salford 80 International Photographic Exhibition, staged at various venues in Salford and Greater Manchester in 1980.

Albumen print photograph, 145 x 200 mm, laid down on its original card mount, 245 x 295 mm; ms. caption in the negative reads: '6395. Lt. Gaunt's Squad drilling. Burton Bros. Dunedin. Protected, Oct. '99'; the print is in good condition; the mount is sunned at the edges and has a tiny amount of insect damage at bottom right corner. Lieutenant (later Sir) Guy Reginald Archer Gaunt raised this native troop, known unofficially as Gaunt's Squad, in 1899 during the Second Samoan Civil War. These fighters were loyal to Malietoa Tanumafili I, and fought alongside the British and Americans against Samoan rebels loyal to Mata'afa Iosefo.

Quarto (270 x 220 mm), half calf over marbled papered boards (boards rubbed, leather a little worn); spine stamped in gilt 'Letter Book'; alphabetical tab dividers; contains numerous copies on onion-skin paper of outgoing local and overseas correspondence (some written in Scots Gaelic), most signed by Hon. Secretary John Macdonald; complete and well preserved. Around the time of the demise of the St. Andrew's Society of New South Wales, which had become defunct by the end of 1875, two other organisations dedicated to the fostering of Scottish culture in the colony were established in Sydney. One was the Caledonian Society of New South Wales; the other was the Gaelic Society of New South Wales. Uniform quarto (270 x 220 mm), half leather over cloth or marbled papered boards (mild rubbing and some wear to extremities), spines stamped in gilt 'Letter Book'; alphabetical tab dividers; containing a large number of copies on onion-skin paper of outgoing local and overseas correspondence, most signed by Hon. Paul DeWitt Twinem was born in Harrisville, Ohio, in 1894. In May 1922, while on the academic staff at the University of Nanking, he married Mary Dorothy Fine (b. 1895 in Trenton, New Jersey), an American Presbyetrian missionary based at Huaiyuan, in Anhui Province. Twinem himself joined the Presbyterian Mission, but only a few months later he died suddenly on 23 September, 1923, leaving Mary a young widow. Cover: Introduced in George Willoghby's Ltd. Gorgeous Presentation Aladdin Pantomime. Sydney : Alberts, 1914. Folio, illustrated cover by A. Morrow showing the unnamed female lead of the pantomime Aladdin (small burn mark to front), 3 pp of musical notation, a very good copy.  Produced by Lester Brown and with musical direction by Wynne Jones, this Sydney pantomime was staged at the very start of the First World War. The song If I could meet the fellow that started ragtime was sung in the production by Edward Stanley. Copies are recorded in three Australian collections (National Library of Australia; Monash University Library; State Library of New South Wales). 

Cover: Dedicated to Captain Henry Down and the officers of the Peninsular and Oriental Navigation Company's Steam Ship Chusan by Henry Marsh, Sydney. Sydney : Published by H. Marsh & Co. at the Sydney Pianoforte and Music Ware Rooms, 490 1/2 George Street, [c.1852]. Folio, front cover with a bichrome lithograph of the Chusan by the important colonial artist George French Angas (front cover detached, some browning and foxing to front and rear), 4 pp of musical notation, internally clean and fresh. Rare. The composer and publisher Henry Marsh arrived in Australia in 1850 and established the firm of Marsh & Co in 1852. His composition The Chusan Waltz celebrated the maiden voyage of the first P. & O. steamship to operate as a regular mail ship between England and Australia. Copies are recorded in three Australian collections (National Library of Australia; State Library of New South Wales; Australian National Maritime Museum).

Cover: Sung by Mr Arthur Romer. Melbourne : Nicholson & Ascherberg, [1875]. Folio, lithographed cover by Charles Troedel of Collins Street, printed in green, original owner's inscription Mary G. Connell July 11th 1875 at upper right and blind stamp of bookseller Walch of Launceston at upper left, 3 pp of musical notation, a very good copy. The composer, arranger and singer of this piece of music remain obscure. The publisher Eugene Ascherberg was born in Dresden and emigrated to Australia in 1870 where he settled in Melbourne and went into partnership with Nicholson until he left Australia in 1880 to try his luck in Britain, where, after an early bankruptcy, his music businesses flourished.  Copies are recorded in two Australian collections (National Library of Australia; State Library of New South Wales).

Melbourne : J. C. W. Nicholson, [1874]. Folio (345 x 250 mm), disbound, pictorial wrappers with a striking front cover design lithographed by Charles Troedel; 5 pp music notation (arrangement for piano); scattered foxing, else a fine copy. Published in Melbourne in July 1874 by Nicholson, Plock's Little Footsteps galop was described by one newspaper of the time as being 'the adaptation of a well-known air to dancing purposes' (Ballarat Star, 14 July 1874). Melbourne orchestra leader and composer Herr Adolph Plock was the arranger. The sheet music was available from the publisher's shop in Collins Street East, and also from the Ballarat music seller J. Harrison, at 137 Sturt Street. The Ballarat Star reviewer (ibid.) opined that the music was 'tastefully printed': small wonder, as it was designed and lithographed by the experienced and talented Charles Troedel, Nicholson's long-term collaborator. Folio, front cover with lithograph of a young girl praying beside her bed by Charles Troedel of Collins Street (mild foxing to front and rear covers), 2 pp musical notation (scattered foxing). This noted song was first published in America in 1870 and was written by Charles A White (1832-92). During 1869-70, Frank Weston, an American entrepreneur, organised four local and imported American troupes into one and hired St. Georges Hall in Melbourne, renaming it Weston’s Opera House. It was the first theatre in Australia to be devoted to the cultural movement known as Ethiopianism.  This is the first Australian edition of Put me in my little bed; copies are recorded in two Australian collections (State Library of Victoria; National Library of Australia).
