Brooklyn NY: Maltine Company, 1882. A 6" x 4 1/2" 16pp booklet with illustrated wraps. The cover depicts an American shield with crossed American and Red Cross flags. It is titled US Surgeons General United Sates Army. Series 1. It includes six (6) portraits of the surgeons general from 1815-1882. The portraits were copied by special permission form the original oil paintings in the possession of the Government. Each portrait is captioned with the name and dates of service. The narrative is promoting Maltine "extract of malt" , "Matine with Creosote and "Maltine with Wine of Pepsin". The booklet is speaking to physicians on the superiority of their product but may have been for the general public.

United States, 1890. Very good. Lightly toned. Ten trial to verso.. A late 19th-century reproduction of a photograph, with two actors portraying Uncle Tom and Little Eva from Harriet Beecher Stowe's "Uncle Tom's Cabin". In the image, Uncle Tom gestures with his right hand towards heaven, as Eva looks on. They both hold a book (presumably a Bible). Printed on card, measuring approx. 6" by 4", verso blank. A nice example of how the popular novel permeated throughout all levels of material culture in the nineteenth century. These characters would have been instantly recognizable to people at the time.
