One of 500 copies. 18 different alphabets printed in different colours on French-fold variously coloured Strathmore Artlaid and Plan 8 paper. The typeface in Monotype Walbaum. 8vo., original printed wrappers over printed limp boards. Wrappers little crinkled, book block split.||The alphabets are from original 30 x 22 inch drawings printed in black line and individually painted, now in the collections of universities, museums and galleries. Kindersley’s aim was to make these named alphabets and his incredible calligraphic skills accessible to all.|

Printed in Monotype Plantin by the Oxford University Press on pale grey mottled Van Gelder paper. 8vo., original quarter vellum with terracotta paper covered sides, blocked with rules and title in Arabic in gilt on the front cover, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, others uncut. Edges and spine bit rubbed, spine darkened, otherwise good.||The chromolithographs by Dorn, McKnight Kauffer’s wife, were the first to be printed at the Curwen Press for book illustration.Vathek combined popular Oriental elements with the Gothic novel. He left them 6 original linocuts in his will so that they could produce an edition of prints after his death. |

Sm. 4to., original full limp vellum by the Doves Bindery with its stamp on the lower turn-in, gilt lettering on spine. Near fine.||The text of Shakespeare’s narrative pastoral poem with which he launched his career as a poet comes from the first edition printed in 1593 by Richard Field. It tells of Venus’s unrequited love for the incredibly beautiful Adonis and her attempted seduction of him, foiled by his preference for hunting which leads to his being killed by a wild boar. A very good, bright copy.||One of the series of “Werkdrucke” issued commercially by the Bremer Presse between 1923 and 1930. The books were designed in the Press’s workshop using Anna Simon’s lettering and the Bremer Antiqua type and then printed at a commercial printing house.|

Oblong folio (380 × 575 mm), 53 leaves (which include a calligraphic title-page, 13 leaves of illustrations and 39 calligraphic text leaves), with a total of 20 original watercolour and gouache illustrations (6 full page, c. 230 × 400 mm and 14 smaller, c. 230 × 180 mm), 2 of the text leaves with calligraphic borders, various ornaments including illuminated initials and calligraphic tailpieces. Occasional browning/offsetting but generally very clean. Rear board very slightly bowed, some mild fading to spine, otherwise a good copy.||With the original prospectus inserted loose.|

Printed in Subiaco type in red and black with initials, designed by Graily Hewitt, printed in blue. One of 236 copies. 8vo., original limp vellum with green silk ties, fore and lower edges untrimmed. An exceptionally good, fresh copy, top edge just very slightly spotted.||Reprinted from the fifteenth century Florentine manuscript by Ugolino Verino which was in the private collection of Hornby, having been bought by him at Sothebys in 1918. After the sale the Franciscan scholar Walter Seton asked permission to study it as a hitherto unknown version of the Life of St. Clare and his introduction and notes printed here summarise the results of his work.
