New York: Macmillan Publishing Co., Inc., 1979. 3rd Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Third Edition, 1st printing (Full Number Lines). Previous editions of 1959 and 1972. 85 text pages, an introduction (7 pages), plus a total of 5 endpaper leaves (for notes?). Classic composition book used by many adults and college students. Strunk emphasized clarity in writing, cutting out the deadwood, using the active voice, putting statements in a positive form, and writing with simplicity and sincerity. E.B. White, a student of Strunk at Cornell University, later added another chapter. The book is very well-preserved clean book with only an owner's name and a tiny corner tip bump. It may have been only partially read -fairly tight. The dust jacket is unclipped with original price. The front panel has a large mended curved tear with a small chip in the middle. A second tear, approximately .5" is closed and has a tiny top chip. The spine tail area has 1 V-shaped chip extended to bottom of jacket front.

Gilt banding on the spine with the title plate missing.First Volume of a two-volume set Milton's poetry was slow to see the light of day, at least under his name. His first published poem was "On Shakespeare" (1630), anonymously included in the Second Folio edition of William Shakespeare's plays in 1632. An annotated copy of the First Folio has been suggested to contain marginal notes by Milton.[53] Milton collected his work in 1645 Poems during the excitement attending the possibility of establishing a new English government. The anonymous edition of Comus was published in 1637, and the publication of Lycidas in 1638 in Justa Edouardo King Naufrago was signed J. M. Otherwise. The 1645 collection was the only poetry of his to see print until Paradise Lost appeared in 1667.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
