Rare first edition of this book by Arthur Machen. XIII + 515 pages. All, except the front and back flyleaf pages (heavy age toning and shadowing) are in excellent condition. No tears, folds, marks or foxing/toning. Pages are clear and clean. The cover has issues. Fraying along the front side of the spine and the top and bottom of the spine. The rear side of the spine is slightly frayed and there is buckling on the back cover. There is a bookplate on the inside front cover and a very small book seller's sticke at the bottom of the back inside cover. The Sime illustrations on the front cover and spine have largely held their colors. (see photos).
Author's note for the first xiii pages, followed by six short stories (see phto of Contents page).
