Garton & Co. London. 1992. FIRST EDITION. Large 8vo. (11 X 8.5 inches). LIMITED EDITION. One of only 50 copies. Original wood engraving (again one of just 50, numbered and initialled by the printer) in a pocket inside the rear board. Illustrated with a mono photo portrait of Drury for the frontispiece and 94 reproductions of his prints. Also included with the book is an amendment to the catalogue which was issued as 6 stapled A4 sheets and featuring revisions by Alan D. Guest. A fine copy in a fine dustwrapper. ----- Paul Drury was at the centre of the revival of the pastoral tradition at Goldsmith's College in the 1920's, along with Robin Tanner, Graham Sutherland, Bouverie Hoyton & William Larkins, among others, rejecting the plein air tradition of etching which was prevalent at the time. The limited edition wood-engraving that is included with the book is of particular importance, being one of the earliest works by any of the Goldsmiths' group that can really be described as pastoral.

[Düsseldorf: The Artist], November 1990.. 26 pictorial cards, plus interleaves and manuscript title. (125 x 175 mm). Collage and hand-painting. Contained in handpainted box, with manuscript title and date repeated inside the lid. Slight crack to one joint of the lid, otherwise about fine. A unique assemblage by the collagist and installation artist, comprised of an alphabet of 26 collaged cards, made up of found images with text captions, chiefly on subjects of armaments and conflict, each overpainted in blood red and gunmetal gray. Both the manuscript title and the inside of the upper lid are signed by Rungenhagen (1949-). The implication of the caption title is that this is likely one of a series of artist's alphabets.

Irregular accordion folding, into folio of covered boards with etching and mixed media decorative paper. Karen Kunc: "The cantilevered folds of a looming structure have subtle visual cues that seep and inundate behind and within. Heavy book: extra charges for expedited or international shipping. Captain Nicolas Baudin's early 19th-century voyage of scientific discovery to Australia is a little-known event in French and Australian history. Yet that voyage played an important part in the history of Australian and Pacific colonization, and in the long story of worldwide scientific exploration. Departing Le Havre in 1800, Baudin's expedition comprised two ships--the Naturaliste and the Géographe--and 238 men, including 22 scientists.
