WHEREAS we have thought fit, in pursuance of the Authority vested in us by His Majesty's Order in Council, of the 23rd June, 1824, to establish the INSTRUCTIONS contained in this Book, for His Majesty's Service at Sea; You are hereby required and directed strictly to conform yourself thereto, and to take care that the several Officers, under your command, pay the most strict attention and obedience to same. Given under our hands, 1st December, 1825, MELVILLE, WM.JOHNSTONE HOPE, G.COCKBURN, G.CLERK, W.R.K.DOUGLAS. To the respective Flag Officers, Captains, Commanders, and Officers Commanding His Majesty's Ships and Vessels. By Command of their Lordships, J.W.CROKER. This book is a mine of information about the duties and responsibilities of those in the British Navy in the early 19th century, and includes sections on Fitting and Refitting, Stores and Provisions, Books and Accounts, Discipline, Pilotage, and Sick Quarters. Each section has numerous appendices, many of which are large fold out sheets. Other than some random foxing this book is in very good condition throughout and has recently been rebacked withthe original spine overlaid.
