About This Item
Publisher's original blue cloth with top-edge, spine lettering, upper panel lettering and stately architectural decoration all gilt, octavo, pp. xii, 264. INSCRIBED by the author in a confident hand on the half-title page. Tissue-guarded frontis portrait of the author and 15 additional plates, as called for. Short September, 1915, gift inscription to previous owner from a friend at top of title page, and that owner's name and date (two weeks later) on free front endpaper. Short tear with no loss on one leaf (pp. 1-2) at mid fore-edge; off-setting at top of gutter, pp. 116 and 117, perhaps from a fragment of newspaper inserted long ago as a place marker; short tears at bottom edges of pp. 171-174 and again at pp. 183-186 that may have been caused by initial separating of the leaves with a dull implement or by an unskilled or unsteady hand. These are shallow marginal losses with no text affected. We have included our best attempts at close-up images of these several faults. GOOD condition withal, and uncommon indeed as a SIGNED First edition.
