Description:
London: T. Tickler & Co, 1837. Paperback. Very Good -. 52 p.; 14 cm. Brown wrapper with wrapper title in black. American poet Fitz-Greene Halleck first published "Fanny," his satirical look at social mobility and New York society, in 1819. Its popularity led him to publish a version with 50 additional sections in 1821. This edition is of the longer version, running through section CLXXI. "T. Tickler & Co." was presumably a false imprint, as it produced no other works. A copy of this edition was presented to the author by his friend, the London bookseller Robert Triphook; it seems likely that Triphook himself published it as T. Tickler & Co. [see Wilson, Life and Letters of Fitz-Greene Halleck (1869), 405.] Satire aside, the poem provides a fascinating glimpse of New York City in the 1810s. A very scarce edition of this American poem. In Very Good- Condition: some loss of wrapper along spine; front wrapper has chip out of fore-edge and minor loss at corners; wrapper slightly soiled; light foxing…

Oxford: At the Clarendon Press, 1926. First edition. 12mo. xxxv, 553 pp. With a tipped-in autograph letter, signed by the French poet Pierre-Jean de Beranger, 28 October 1829, to a M. Becker, apparently an aspiring song writer who had sent Beranger some of his songs (some evidence of repair along folds). Beranger (1780-1857), French poet and writer of popular songs, was celebrated for his liberal and humanitarian views during a period when French society as a whole was undergoing rapid and sometimes violent change; "the songs of Beranger are elaborate, written in a clear and sparkling style, full of wit and incision" (Encyclopedia Britannica, 11th edition). In this anthology are three Beranger poems. Joints a little rubbed, but very good. Somewhat later burgundy morocco, gilt spine title, gilt turn-in dentelles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, by Rivière. (#6179).

Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows
) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions…
