Finely bound in dark green Morocco boards with marbled end papers and gilt edges. "Blake" in gilt on the cover and gilt on the slight faded spine. The edges of the cover boards show wear and the top of the spine is frayed. The interior hinges are cracked but the binding is secure. Half title, frontis illustration and title with vignette. Good clean condition. A little darkening / marking to the boards. Internally clean. 64 pages. 235 by 190mm (9¼ by 7½ inches).

This was Jones second book following international success with his first book, From Here to Eternity (1951). He spent the next 6 years working on this his second novel. Scribner did a first print run of over 12,000 copies. Reviews were mixed and sales were less than striking. No worries, Jones had already sold the movies rights to MGM. The movie starred Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
