In his book "On Poisons, in Relation to Medical Jurisprudence and Medicine" (Lea & Blanchard, Philadelphia, 1848), Doctor Alfred Swaine Taylor states: "The great value of chemical evidence in otherwise doubtful cases of poisoning, was never more strongly shown than at the trial of Mary Ann Burdock at Bristol, in 1835... The body of the deceased had been buried fourteen months: it was exhumed, and the poison discovered in the stomach and viscera." Recent mottled half calf over marbled boards, raised bands and gold decorations and lettering on the spine, all edges marbled. Light toning to text block, some mild scattered foxing, minor annotations in pencil, name on title. A clean, near fine copy. ; 12mo.

First edition; two volumes; 340, 368pp. In contemporary full speckled calf (somewhat worn, front hinges cracked but secure), gilt volume numbers and remains of title labels to spines, early ink ownership inscription to half-title of volume 2, sporadic light paper browning but overall a very good complete copy of this uncommon history. Italia: n.p., 1835. Very Good. 19 cm; 20 pages (three blank), including 7 full-page illustrations with captions. Text and illustrations lithographed throughout. Bound in (later?) plain wraps. Not in Melzi. No copies located. Apparently unrecorded booklet with text and illustrations produced completely in lithograph. The text reproduces an italic calligraphy that must have been lettered in reverse on stone, or written out on transfer paper before being applied to the lithographic stone. The narrative concerns a lady who is handily juggling simultaneous affairs with a young man and with the young man's father.

Grey paper over boards; black, green, and purple cover illustration of female cat with ball of yarn sitting next to kitten in a cradle. Grey fixed endpapers. No date of publication given; it was published in Britain by Blackie and Son in 1908. This is the first American edition with first verse being "Playtime in Pussy-town." Title vignette is a cat holding a sign reading "Christmas Carols." Most pages have one illustration with amusing verse, some have more than one illustration on a page. The center two pages, without verse, contain four illustrations set in a nickelodeon, showing what happens when an audience of cats sees a moving image of mice.
